Leonid Afremov was born on July 12, 1955 in Vitebsk, Belarus.

He resided there until 1990, moving then to Israel until 2002.  In 1973 he graduated from high school with honors and was admitted to Vitebsk Education Institute, studying arts and graphics. It was during this time that Leonid was introduced to the work of Chagall, Picasso, Dali, Modigliani as well as the 19th century French Impressionism works.  He graduated in 1978 as one of the schools elite members.

In 1976 he married his wife, Inessa Kagan. His first son, Dmitry, was born in 1977.  Boris, his second son, was born in 1984.  On May 17, 1990 the family was one of the first to migrate from USSR to Israel during the Russian-Jewish immigration wave of the 1990s.  After dealing with years of shunning and vandalisim to his business, he moved his family to the USA.  After suffering adverse effects from the cold northern climate, the family settled in Fort Lauderdale
